History Comes to Life at Elmwood Speaks

Each September, some of Centralia’s most fascinating stories are brought back to life during Elmwood Speaks.

Presented by the Centralia Cultural Society, Elmwood Speaks is a living-history event featuring local actors portraying real people buried at Elmwood Cemetery. At eight stops throughout the cemetery, guests will meet people from Centralia’s past and hear about their lives, contributions and connections to the community.

The experience begins at the Centralia Cultural Society, where guests will receive a short introduction before being transported to Elmwood Cemetery. Once there, golf carts will take guests from one historical figure to the next.

Now in its 15th year, Elmwood Speaks has shared the stories of dozens of people who helped shape Centralia, from doctors and coal miners to civic leaders and everyday community members. Each year introduces a new group of historical figures, making the event a different experience every time.

Elmwood Speaks will take place September 10, 11, 12 and 13, 2026.

Tickets are $20 per person, and reservations are required. Tours begin at the Centralia Cultural Society, located at 1250 E. Rexford Dr. In case of rain, the full production will be held inside the Cultural Society.
